Excellent service and fantastic website

The Stove Fitters Warehouse website was invaluable while we were choosing a woodburning stove. The descriptions and measurements gave us all the info we needed and the pages that explain about installing the stove have been invaluable. Our Peanut 3 and associated bits and pieces all arrived on the correct day even with the problems of the pandemic. We've not been able to install it yet as Christmas got in the way, and all the local tradesmen are busy for months. We would have preferred to have been able to buy a 4 inch flue to go with it. Order no. 12582

Fitting a stove and chimney to a brick garage.

We wanted a log burner in a brick garage with a pitched roof, to keep the workshop warm in winter. Son in law had purchased from stovefitters before, fitting two fires, so he recommended the supplier, and ordered the peanut 3 together with the shed chimney kit, after advice from stovefitters, and fitted it in a day with no problems. Excellent service and advice, and a roaring fire and warm workshop.

Description

About the Saltfire Peanut 3

Saltfire Peanut 3

The Peanut 3 shares the contemporary design of the rest of the Peanut range and is the smallest in the family. As with the other Peanuts it is made of cast iron and is durable and long-lasting - all wrapped up in a compact body that could well give the Salamander Hobbit a run for its money.

As with all Peanut stoves this model has Fast Flame technology - lighting and re-lighting fires just got a load easier.

Peanut Fast Flame

All Peanut stoves have Fast Flame to make re-lighting a small bed of embers easy peasy. Read more on our Peanut 5 page.

Specifications

Output & Fuel

Wood-only (can only burn wood)
Nominal 4kW. Max. 4.4kW

This stove will run happily at 2kW - 4.4kW depending on fuel load. Note that running the stove at a higher fuel level than that specified in the manufacturer's manual may cause degradation of stove innards (firebricks, baffle etc.) although these are replaceable (and repairable with beige fire cement).

What size stove do I need?

Eco Credentials

This stove meets and exceeds the new 2022 Ecodesign regulations

This stove is approved by DEFRA to burn wood in a Smoke Control Area

Efficiency

82.7% (as a rough guide 82.7% of heat goes to the room with 17.3% going up the chimney).

Don't overthink efficiency. 75%-85% is fine and90%+ efficiency may not work so well on shorter or difficult chimneys.

External Air

No, this stove cannot be fitted with an external air kit (draws air from outside via pipe direct to stove). Usually this option is not relevant unless a room air-vent is required and the property is airtight (by design or choice).

Air vent advice here

Body & Door

Cast -iron stove (5-year body guarantee) with cast-iron door

What to buy steel or cast-iron? Do not overthink. Steel heats fast. Cast-iron takes a little longer but retains heat longer as fire dies.

Hearth

Hearth thickness: minimum 12mm non-combustible material (can include floor thickness).

If in a fireplace recess, a full 125mm thickness constructional hearth is required. This will usually be in place as part of the recess design.

Hearth regulation advice here

Dimensions

Dimensions

Height: 480mm
Width: 348mm
Depth: 286mm
Front of pipe to rear of stove: 152mm

Flue outlet: 4" (100mm)

Which fitting pack for my liner? A fitting pack includes all you need except liner and chimney closure plate (also sometimes known as register plate)? Advice here

Glass

Viewing area (from outside stove looking in)

Width: 348mm
Height: 240mm

Flue

4" (100mm) collar top or rear. Can be installed with a 5" chimney liner.

We recommend using a 4" to 5" vitreous adaptor and using 5" vitreous pipe). If using twin wall flue pipe (insulated) and wish to take the twin wall all the way to the stove then use a 4-5" twin wall adaptor.

Top or rear connection

Air Gaps

Distance to combustibles SIDE: 550mm
Distance to combustibles REAR: 150mm

To non-combustibles there are no hard rules but, around the stove, a 50mm minimum air gap is recommended to brick/stone. This to be increased to 100mm for rendered or boarded surfaces. Prior to purchasing any stove download the installation manual to check that manufacturers do not have any additional requirements.

Distances & heat shield advice

Log Length

Max log length: 250mm
