Charnwood Stoves are very popular in the UK and made on the Isle of Wight. The C5 is very similar to the C4 (rumoured to be Britain's best selling stove) but is landscape rather than portrait format. The C4 and the C5 are excellent designs. Note that Charnwood recommend a 15cm air gap left and right of the stove and so a narrow fireplace recess may be a problem. Innovative rear adaptor available.
|Collar size inches||5|
|Direct air supply option||Yes|

Julian and Arron run a brilliant business. Super responsive and help out with speedy deliveries and excellent advise and always with a smile. I'm a stove fitter but still pick the brains of these guys, as they are the stove gurus. Cannot recommend this company highly enough!!! Thanks guys. Angus.
Did lot of research before deciding on which stove to go for. Main considerations were large firebox so that I can use sensible sized logs and decent heat output. I'm sure this stove must be capable of well over its 5 KW rating.
Also wanted a stove which would fit in the gap I had but also protrude into the room which the Charnwood did nicely using the rear adaptor.
The ability to use a 5 inch liner was also a major factor as getting a 6 inch liner down my chimney was not a task I relished.
Definitely a quality product. Several times during the deciding and install process I had to contact Charnwood technical and always received a prompt accurate reply.
I was impressed how easily it was to light and the heat output was most adequate. Cant wait for Winter to give it a proper try. No regrets on my purchase.
A stove is a stove, but I can't emphasise enough the benefits of buying from Julian and co. He was extremely helpful at arranging delivery slots and promptly provided a new liner when the original one didn't turn up.
We did a lot of research trying to find the right woodburner for a small room which would make it comfortable for us all! The Charnwood is very simple to use, lights quickly and throws out enough heat to heat the room and the kitchen. The robust build, wooden handle and surprising capacity for such a small stove has given rise to many a comment.
We would definitely recommend this stove, however one
It's difficult for me to review a "modern" wood burning stove because this is my first. However, I can make some comparisons with earlier designs that a potential buyer might find useful (especially if they are like me, old enough to remember some of the earlier w/b stoves).
I have had two previous w/b stoves, the first I bought second-hand with little thought and no advice. My main criteria was that it would fill the fireplace opening in a Victorian house which had previously housed an old cast iron range. On first lighting, I had to open all the doors and windows in the house because it was too hot !!
I now realise the importance of ensuring that a stove is not over rated for the space you want to heat, and it's far better to burn hardwood logs because softwood (i.e. old timber) burns too quickly and reaches higher temperatures. Burning softwood is far more difficult to regulate and can damage your stove if left on "full" for too long.
The second w/b burner I fitted was much smaller, A Chelsea, with double glass doors. The lower heat output from the Chelsea was much better suited to the size of the room.
Both these early models had a flue paddle: This was a way of limiting the exhaust from the stove. By careful control of the air inlet and the exhaust it was possible to "shut down" the stove overnight and revive it the next day. Modern w/b stoves have no flue paddle because of the high risk of carbon monoxide poisoning! "Shutting down" also covered the glass with a thick layer of soot and tar, which was a bugger to clean !!
Since the introduction of DEFRA and HETAS legislation modern stoves are designed to produce more heat and less smoke for a given amount of hardwood. My first experience of this was when my HETAS installer used a a few sticks of kindling to commission the stove. Once it had caught, he shut the stove door and reduced the air inlet. The kindling continued burning for what seemed like 30 minutes, and produced a gentle flame that...
Really cannot recommend this company enough. Easy order process, an immensely helpful website, good service and happy to answer questions about the fitting. Thanks very much.
The Stovefitters website is a top-class resource, and helped me from scratch with installing my own stove. I also ordered a wood-only Charnwood C5 stove and a 316 liner from Stovefitters.
The liner was (relatively!) easy to manipulate and install, and the fitting kit made the whole job a simple process. I'm yet to light the stove - waiting for building regs sign off! - but it came well packed and in perfect condition.
I'm already recommending this website to friends.
Julian's sales advice was outstanding with a non biased professional view. Once ordered, the stove arrived very quickly as arranged.
Having been installed the Charnwood C-Five has operated faultlessly and not only warms the room up but adds a beautiful focus.
Overall a fantastic experience in what can be a stressful and expensive time. We couldn't recommend 'The Stove Fitters Warehouse' or the Charnwood C-Five any higher.
Last year I installed a Charnwood C4 purchased from stovefitters. The problem was that after following the advise on the website and completing the installation my wife was so impressed that she insisted that I fit another!! So obviously the only place I went to was stovefitters. I spoke to Arran and he sorted out a couple of quotes for me. We opted for a C5 this time as she who must be obeyed wanted a cream burner which narrowed our options! The delivery was as stated and the quality of the fittings supplied was second to none. In fact the stove pipe is in my opinion of a much better finish than that supplied previously even though it is from the same manufacturer. If you are are seriously considering fitting a burner I would suggest you speak to Arran, he will give you unbiased honest advice. The items they supply are top quality. And more importantly Happy Wife - Happy Life.
I found Stovefitter’s Warehouse on the internet when I was thinking of installing a woodburning stove in our old cottage. Over several weeks I was in regular contact with Julian by email asking him many questions about everything to do with buying and installing a woodburning stove. He gave me information based on the photos I emailed to him. One evening he even phoned me (after office hours) to discuss something I had asked him.
I subsequently ordered a Charnwood C5 stove, Duraflue 904 SS chimney liner and all the associated fittings. Everything was delivered as promised by two different carriers, both were very helpful in getting both packages as close to our door as they could. The driver who delivered the stove negotiated a short, but fairly steep slope with a pallet trolley to get it close to the door.
The fitter who installed the stove and liner was impressed with the liner. He hadn’t seen this particular one before but said he would like to work with it again. He liked the fact that it didn’t flow in one direction and he could see it was good quality.
The stove is now installed and working. We are really pleased with it. The stove is the right size and output and the cowl looks good.
I would recommend Stovefitter’s Warehouse to anyone thinking about installing a stove. The website gives a great deal of information for the newcomer to stoves.
A good looking Stove. Highly recommend Stovefitter's Warehouse. Dealt with order and delivery and follow up questions very well. Disappointed at the lack of response from Charnwood. Purchased for wood only. The result is there is no ash pan or grate and the side fire bricks do not go done to the floor of the stove. The wood sits on the base of the stove. Another query to Charnwood concerns having to purchase a rear flue adaptor which leaves you with with a redundant flue collar deflector. Why do they not sell the Charnwood with the adaptor as an option. They are happy to offer different colour!
From start to finish I was given a personal, prompt, professional Service. I will use them again and recommend them highly.
To say we did a lot of searching for our stove would be an understatement. Not just buying one but every aspect of install information. The site that we kept coming back to was Stovefitters. Not least because of the prices but the wealth of useful, easy to understand, information. When we came to order Julian was kind enough to delay delivery a few weeks to suit our needs and very capably handled an issue with the original delivery when our stove became damaged. Truly A+ service. Oh, and the C5 itself? Still waiting to be installed, but my goodness, it looks even better in person. Love it and can't wait for winter!
Having spent days looking at stoves on line I decided to go with stovefitters as they gave the vest advice and were super patient with all my novice questions. Stove was delivered very quickly as I hadn't left much time before my fitter arrived. All in all these guys are top notch. If I'm ever in the market again I know where to go.
Excellent wood stove air inlet has brilliant controll when it gets going no stopping it Julian customer service was brilliant always there when I rang
Outstanding Stove. Worked exactly as expected. Was easy to install ans set up as a DIYer thanks to a very very good website with clear easy to follow articles on how to install a woodburner. The quality of the twin-wall flue liner was exceptional; yes it is expensive but it is worth it. You really do get what you pay for. All in all, fantastic! Very pleased indeed.. Well done Stovefitters!
A good looking and very well built stove. It came well packed and was easy to install and level up. Easy to light and simple to use. We are delighted and saved £800 using our own Hetas installer rather than the local supplier. The service and advice from the Stove Fitters Warehouse was excellent and well organised. My only adverse comment is there was only one delivery man, who can only deliver outside the property. I was left to struggle on my own in the rain to get a heavy stove into the house. Otherwise, a highly recommended product and supplier.
Sturdy constructed stove - very heavy!!! Simple to operate and looks good. The only issue we had was the glass must have moved in transit and needed to be re-aligned on the seals which took a couple of minutes. Really pleased with our purchase.
After chatting to an HETAS installer who told us that cheap stoves were never a good investment if we planned to stay in our house for many years we decided to visit as many showrooms as possible to look at stoves instead of browsing them on the internet. I would definitely recommend doing so. Some of the stoves we thought looked great on our screen looked cheap and not very nice in the showroom. We chose the Charnwood C5 in the end because it looked so nice compared to the others. Thanks to its unfussy, modern but not too sleek look it was an ideal choice for our victorian house.
We have been using the stove for 2 weeks now. We love it, our house does have a heart now!
Ordering it from the Stove Fitter's warehouse was the obvious choice for us as they were quoting it cheaper than anywhere else we enquired. Their service was excellent and very easy. I ordered online and asked for a specific delivery date. The stove arrived on the day and a very helpful delivery driver brought the stove to our doorstep. An excellent service.
Love are new stove, best log burner site on line with top tips and do's and don't's.great work, great service and quality goods.
Having never fitted a stove before, thanks to this website I have now DIY completed the entire install! Every aspect has been covered by Julian & the team including an easy to use online store which I purchased the outstanding Charnwood C5 + flue liner.
Thank you, truly a pleasure to do business with.
Quick knowledgeable replies to pre sales enquiries and superfast delivery of my Charnwood C5 when ordered. Save over £1,000 by going direct to Julian and booking your own installer through the Hetas website!
Absolutely no problem whatsoever sorting out the purchase of our Stove and Accessories ans really pleased with the service. One slight point was that when the Stove itself was delivered there was only one person doing the actual delivery. Although he had a barrow, he did have to physically manoeuvere an extremely heavy stove into the hallway of our house. Otherwise a really good service and we are delighted with our purchase.
Excellent service with a very quick delivery. Good advice and very helpful staff. Highly recommended.
We have not fitted the stove yet but it looks beautiful just as it is! Great service and the best price. Many thanks
