Ekol ApplePie 4kW Wood Burning Stove

We absolutely love this stove. We were looking for a non-fussy, modern design, small in size. This one is exactly that and looks great in our Victorian chimney breast opening. The stove is easy to use and comes with really useful, well written instructions. The heat it produces is amazing for its size and is just right for the size of our lounge diner. I definitely recommend this burner.

Apple pie stove, enclosure and shed kit.

This is a great little stove. It’s an absolute breeze to light and keep clean and the size fits perfectly in our garden room. The enclosure is a bit pricey for a couple of bits of painted steel but it does set off the stove nicely and avoids the need for a heat shield (in my install anyway). Even with the stove as far back in the enclosure as it will go it doesn't leave a lot of space at the front so you would need to be careful if installing this on a combustible floor in case of anything falling out when opening the door.
I ordered the stove in Nov, which is probably the busiest time of the year but it still arrived within a few days. The shed kit had everything that was needed, one snag was the wall bracket sent direct from the supplier was too bag but this was promptly replaced.
Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend.

The Applepie is one of the most innovative stoves I have ever seen. I love the modular design - customers can choose what they want and "build their own".

Description

About the Ekol Applepie

Also known as "Apple Pi" the Ekol ApplePie is a small, modern Ecodesign wood burning and multifuel stove that loves a small space: snug, home office, shed, boat, caravan, bedroom, extension, conservatory, tent (glamping), van and any small room that needs warming.

Although many will install this stove solely for warmth and ambience there are those who will desire to make a brew and the ApplePie can oblige with the small addition of a Top Cook Plate (and Pot Safety Rail for added security).

All customers can choose to create a hot snack using the stove's internal griddle plate (this is inserted once a suitable bed of red embers has been created) and is included free with every stove.

For those wishing to test their culinary skills further, a top oven is available. Note that once an oven is fitted a top-warming-plate can also be added but this will not be hot enough to fully cook on as most of the heat will be going to the oven. It will, however, be suitable for keeping food hot.

Note that this is "small" stove suitable for small spaces.

The ApplePie can burn wood or solid fuel. If not being installed in a permanent dwelling (if being installed in a narrowboat, caravan, shed, garden office) this small stove may be suitable for a 4" chimney flue.

Distance to combustibles

If you need to be closer to a combustible material you can add a heat shield. More about heat shields here. You can also use an Applepie "enclosure" as seen below. Distance to combustibles gaps can be much less with an enclosure. Download the Applepie Installation Manual for full details.

Specifications

Output & Fuel

Multifuel
Nominal 4kW. Max. 4.5kW

This stove will run happily at 2-4.5kW depending on fuel load. Note that running the stove at a higher fuel level than that specified in the manufacturer's manual may cause degradation of stove innards (firebricks, baffle etc.) although these are replaceable (and repairable with beige fire cement).

This stove can burn wood and smokeless fuel/coal without any modification.

What size stove do I need?

Eco Credentials

This stove meets and exceeds the new 2022 Ecodesign regulations

This stove is approved by DEFRA to burn wood in a Smoke Control Area

Efficiency

82% (as a rough guide 82% of heat goes to the room with 18% going up the chimney).

Don't overthink efficiency. 75%-85% is fine and 90%+ efficiency may not work so well on shorter or difficult chimneys.

External Air

Yes, this stove can be fitted with an external air kit (draws air from outside via pipe direct to stove). Usually this option is not relevant unless a room air-vent is required and the property is airtight (by design or choice).

Air vent advice here

Body & Door

Steel stove (5-year body guarantee) with cast-iron door

What to buy steel or cast-iron? Do not overthink. Steel heats fast. Cast-iron takes a little longer but retains heat longer as fire dies.

Hearth

This stove can, if sited outside of a fireplace recess, be sited on a 12mm thick hearth.

If in a fireplace recess, a full 125mm thickness constructional hearth is required. This will usually be in place as part of the recess design.

Dimensions

Dimensions

Height: 470mm
Width: 305mm
Depth: 312mm
Front of pipe to rear of stove: 150mm (270mm if using rear adaptor)

Flue outlet: 4" (100mm)

These are the dimensions for the Apple Core (base stove).

Glass

Viewing area (from outside stove looking in)

Width: 200mm
Height: 260mm

Flue

4" (100mm) collar top or "top rear" (can be installed with a 5" or 6" chimney liner)

Top or rear connection

Air Gaps

Distance to combustibles SIDE: 350mm
Distance to combustibles REAR: 250mm

To non-combustibles there are no hard rules but, around the stove, a 50mm minimum air gap is recommended to brick/stone. This to be increased to 100mm for rendered or boarded surfaces. Prior to purchasing any stove download the installation manual to check that manufacturers do not have any additional requirements.

Delivery Promise

We offer 14 days from delivery to report any courier damage to your stove. If a stove is damaged by the courier we will replace or refund as desired.

Guarantee

Manufacturer's Guarantee

The manufacturer offers a 5 year body guarantee

Glass

Why do we sell glass insurance (pre-ticked box close to ADD TO CART button)? Because glass is classed, in the stoves industry, as a consumable item and not covered under ANY guarantee by any manufacture for any reason whatsoever. If it breaks or cracks on day one or day twenty it is not covered. If the inside of the glass goes cloudy or gets any kind of surface coating or etching then it is not covered (it will be to do with what you are burning according to manufacturers and glass makers). Glass usually costs £30-£60 plus postage but can be more on higher end models.

Performance

Defra-approved or/and Ecodesign stoves are designed and thoroughly tested before being allowed onto the market and every stove sold is identical. In the rare event a stove does not perform as well as expected it is always down to the installation, the chimney or circumstances unique to the property (pressure imbalances caused by local conditions, down drafts etc.). Here at Stovefitter's we have taken stoves back on a number of occasions for testing on our chimney and in every situation the stoves performed as expected (we may of course find a faulty stove one day but never as yet). We may, at our discretion, take a stove back once it has been used and in this situation a 50% refund would be provided (stove would be sold as second hand). We would, however, offer a 33% refund on a replacement stove.

£ PRICE MATCH £

We will happily strive to match any price you may have from any other supplier as long as the other supplier has it in stock.
Offered an "ex-display" or "shop soiled"? We will strive to offer you a new stove for the same price.

Already have a chimney? You need 1. Stove 2. Liner 3. Fitting Pack 4. Chimney closure plate (Hardiebacker board from Builder's merchants or galvanised sheet). That's it!
No chimney? Check out our shed kits or let us design your clip-together chimney design - easy peasy.
